Firstly, what is bio-hacking?

Bio-Hacking has been a popular and trendy phrase for a number of years now being spruiked by celebrities, elite athletes, high-powered business folks and more as the ultimate life-changer.

So why is Bio-Hacking so good? It is best defined as changing your external and internal environment to ensure your best health and most positive change in chemistry, biology and physiology to achieve Optimal Health.

The reality is though that biohacking is not new!

Many health practitioners such as Dave Asprey and Tim Ferriss have been customising diet, lifestyle for decades to help people achieve their optimal health.

The bad news about bio-hacking

Unfortunately, like a lot of things in the Health & Wellness industry, there are plenty of companies and individuals all looking to make a quick dollar on the back of the latest fad.

From vitamins, supplements, coffee, lotions, potions and more simply add the word ‘bio-hack’ and presto, it’s a magical product!

As well as bio-hacked products, the large money and promises are normally attached to an entire bio-hacking program.

Simply purchase a biohacking program that comes complete with set vitamins etc and an instruction manual…

A generic approach has never worked for health and never will.

Taking a protocol not suited to you, generic to many other people and not specific to your needs will only lead to disappointment and loss of financial investment at best and negative health effects at worst.

It’s the same with diets, gym routines and so on – one size does not suit all!

Why do bio-hacking programs fail?

Biohacking, like copy and paste gym routines, set diets (i.e. Keto, Paleo, Atkins, Nutropics etc) that use a one-size-fits approach will always fail.

Imagine if you will, a builder coming to your door wanting to make your house the best it ever has been. As well as your house, they are also going to make every house in your suburb the best they can be too.

You think, that’s amazing and ask what will they do to make your house so great. They say, well, we will do exactly the same thing as we do to every other house in your suburb.

You may be thinking, but my house is different, it was built years ago, by a different builder, different foundations and renovations, different eternal environments with different plants surrounding your home.

In fact, years ago you rented your home to Uni students and it has had some more wear and tear than other houses and it isn’t North facing like the houses across the street.

You may be thinking, why would you treat and prepare my home, the same as my entire suburb? Mine is different and has different needs, different treatments and preparations are required.

If your home is the only place you have to live, would you treat it like every other house?

What if you started at the gym and asked for a program.

Instead of understanding your needs, your health, your lifestyle, your goals, your timeline, your current fitness levels, any injuries to take into account and what will suit you, they gave you a generic program that they give every other person who joins their gym.

You wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t work would you?

Would you be surprised if you didn’t enjoy it and stick to it?

The benefits of biohacking

Done correctly, biohacking can be life-changing.

Using techniques to understand your body and to learn how to listen and respond to your body is the way forward in health.

Making sure we help others to understand the signs, signals and symptoms that are showing up for you in your body, and how to respond to them is a life-changing skill all on its own.

Add to that lifestyle, nutritional, and health changes in all pillars -physical, mental, emotional and soulful that are right for you, and you have a recipe for success in the area of most importance……Health.

Achieving Optimal Health doesn’t always need big massive change.

It certainly can if you want that, however, what is most important is making changes that are right for you.

Taking actions that may be small, but provide great results is the way forward in any health journey. Making health both achievable and enjoyable is what creates long-lasting sustainable results.
